Brian Medeiros Breaks All-Time Record at Canton HS for most wins 

Brian Medeiros has been the Head Varsity Basketball Coach at Canton High School since 2014. On December 30th, 2022  in a 54-30 win vs Shepaug Valley, he broke the school's All-Time Record for most wins for any Men's and Women's Basketball Coach.  This tremendous milestone for Medeiros comes less than a year after breaking the women's all-time record of 165 wins on February 8th, 2022 at Ellington HS. With Medeiros putting his name in the record book after 9 seasons, and just starting his 10th (this includes the shortened and canceled years due to covid: technically 8.5 seasons without those years), there's no telling what record he'll match up against next.

Over the years at Canton, Medeiros has racked up a pretty impressive stat line. He has an overall record of 174-51 (77%), with back-to-back Class S State Championships in 2016 and 2017. One could say 2020 may have been added to that list, but unfortunately, Covid ended the tournament while Canton was inching closer to the title once again. But these weren't their only appearances in the finals during 'The Run To The Sun'. Medeiros appeared in the State Championship Finals two times, once prior to his first championship, in 2015 (one year after taking over the program), and once after the back-to-back takeover, in 2019. But, it doesn't end there. Canton is a part of the NCCC conference where Medeiros and the Warriors are no strangers to the finals. In his 7 seasons (only 7 seasons were able to have a tournament due to Covid for the past 2), Canton has made it to the NCCC finals 4x, securing 2 tournament wins from the 4. They also made it to the semi-finals twice in that 7-year stretch (covid year had no NCCC tournament). 

 

We are lucky to have Brian Medeiros as part of our program for the past 15 years and counting, and we are so proud of all he has accomplished thus far. Who knows, maybe he'll break the CIAC all-time record next...
